What it takes to start

We are direct about who we can help.

Precious metals are a long-hold position, not a trade. Below a certain size the fees and the storage stop making sense, so we say so up front rather than after a conversation.

IRA and 401(k) rollovers start at
$25,000

Direct cash purchases start at
$10,000

Under either number, a specialist will tell you so on the first call rather than selling you something that does not fit.

The process

Your rollover, in four steps.

The question we are asked most is whether moving a 401(k) into metals triggers a taxable event. A direct trustee-to-trustee transfer is generally not treated as one.

  1. 01

    Open a self-directed IRA

A specialist walks you through the paperwork with an IRS-approved custodian. Your existing account stays where it is until you say otherwise.

  2. 02

Fund it by transfer or rollover

Money moves trustee to trustee, custodian to custodian. Handled this way it is generally not treated as a distribution. Confirm your own situation with your tax professional.

  3. 03

    Choose your metals

You pick which IRA-eligible coins and bars you want to hold. We quote the price at the time of your order.

  4. 04

    Metals ship to a depository

Your metals are held in an approved depository in your account name, fully insured, and you receive statements the same way you do today.

Why gold

A dollar is a promise. An ounce is an ounce.

“Gold is the only commodity that has held a steady value against inflation over the centuries.”

Ronald Reagan

Paper savings depend on somebody else keeping their word: a bank, a fund manager, a government. Physical metal does not. It is the same weight in a depository this year as it was the year you bought it, and it settles with no counterparty at all.

That is the whole argument, and it is why people who have already built their savings tend to hold some of it in metal rather than all of it in promises.
